The "Amisos Treasure," the most valuable treasure found in Turkey after the Lydian Hoard, has been brought to light.

Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Tokat Governor Numan Hatipoğlu, Amasya Mayor Dr. Bayram Çelik, Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Salih Zeki Murzioğlu, Tokat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Fatih Gökdere, and members of the development agency's board of directors visited the Samsun Museum to conduct inspections.

During the inspection, it was stated that the Samsun Museum hosts very important and rare historical, cultural, and artistic artifacts, and it was emphasized that the Samsun Museum will also serve to rediscover the historical and archaeological potential of Samsun and the Black Sea region.

DISCOVERED IN 1995

The Amisos Treasure, which has taken its place in the museum, was discovered in Samsun on November 28, 1995, during a construction excavation.

The treasure, found in a location named Amisos Hill, belongs to members of the Pontic Kingdom dynasty and consists of 64 pieces. It was taken from the Samsun Archaeology and Ethnography Museum and has begun to be exhibited at the Samsun Museum, which is counting down the days to its official opening. The Amisos Treasure, described as the most valuable treasure found in Turkey after the Lydian Hoard, is divided into five categories: glass, metal, terracotta, marble, and gold.

It is stated that the gold artifacts date back to the 1st century BC, while the other artifacts date back to the 4th century BC.

The Samsun Museum, which houses many significant artifacts, is counting down the days to its official opening.
