10 more geographical indications granted to Hatay

While earthquake survivors in Hatay, which suffered massive destruction in the February 6 earthquakes, are trying to heal their wounds, the city's famous delicacies continue to make a name for themselves.

10 MORE DELICACIES REGISTERED

In Hatay, where culture continues to be kept alive, 10 delicacies have been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office with geographical indications. The number of registered products with geographical indications, which was 25, has been increased to 50 through ongoing efforts.

GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION GRANTED

Geographical indications have been granted to Hatay's famous delicacies: Aşur dish, fava bean mash, semolina halva with cheese, stone kadayıf, salty yogurt soup, stuffed vine leaves, sour stew, Bahtenis stuffed vegetables, Fellah meatballs, and stuffed vine leaves with lamb chops.

'DOUBLED IN 2 YEARS'

Stating that the efforts are continuing, Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı said: 'We have begun work on the revival, construction, and reconstruction of our city, which has a history dating back hundreds of thousands of years, in every aspect, through what we call the Hatay model in disaster recovery. One of these efforts was related to increasing the number of our products with geographical indications. In our assessments so far, we have identified more than 600 types of dishes in our city. Looking at the registrations, we have increased our geographical indications, which stood at 25 as of February 5, 2023, to 50 as of now by concentrating our efforts in this area. In other words, the number of our products with geographical indications has almost doubled in a 2-year period.'

'THE RICHNESS OF OUR CULTURE'

Emphasizing that they view geographical indications as a national issue, Governor Masatlı said, 'Because this is the only way we can perceive the origin and source of a product. In that respect, these geographical indications mean, in a sense, registering both the richness of our culture and the efforts of our people in this regard. I wish these 10 geographical indications to be beneficial, especially for our Hatay.'
