144 new metro vehicles for Istanbul: Service frequency to increase

According to the statement made by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 104 new metro vehicles will be provided for the currently operating M7 Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, and 40 for the M12 Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line, which is set to open in 2025.

With the new metro vehicles, the service frequency on the M7 Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line will reach 2-minute intervals during peak hours, while the M12 Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line will operate at 5-minute intervals during peak hours.

40 NEW VEHICLES FOR THE ÜMRANIYE-ATAŞEHİR-GÖZTEPE LINE

 The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) continues its work on the 'Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe' metro, which will connect 3 districts with a combined population exceeding 1 million 600 thousand on a single line. While construction continues for the M12 Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line, which is scheduled to open in 2025, 40 new metro vehicles that will serve the line are also being prepared.

The line, which has the capacity to serve 44 thousand passengers per hour in one direction with 11 stations along its 13-kilometer route, is planned to operate with a 5-minute service interval during peak hours, with a one-way travel time of 23 minutes.

M7 KABATAŞ-MECİDİYEKÖY-MAHMUTBEY

Having completed and opened the first stage of the M7 Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, covering the section between Mecidiyeköy and Mahmutbey, in October 2020, and the second stage, covering the section between Mecidiyeköy and Yıldız, in January 2023, the İBB currently provides service with 80 vehicles at 4.5-minute intervals during peak hours. With the opening of the final stage, Kabataş-Yıldız, which is currently under construction, the 24.5 km long M7 Metro Line will complete its total of 19 stations and contribute to transportation in Istanbul with a total of 184 vehicles at 2-minute intervals during peak hours. Thus, the operational capacity of the M7 Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro Line will be increased by 130 percent.
