October 29 Republic Day and the 100th anniversary of the Republic celebrations saw a 7-person team work continuously for 5 days to manufacture a 1923-square-meter Turkish flag.

The giant flag was brought to Sekapark and unfurled in the sea by divers. Numerous boats and thousands of citizens on the shore witnessed this moment.

Governor Seddar Yavuz, who attended the event, told reporters that they were celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic with great enthusiasm, honor, and joy, noting that the Republic of Turkey was founded a century ago after great suffering.

"WE DEFINE THE SECOND CENTURY AS THE CENTURY OF RESURRECTION AND UPRISING"

"We define the second century as the century of resurrection and uprising." said Yavuz, explaining that they watched the unfurling of the flag, the symbol of independence, in the sea with honor and pride.

Yavuz stated that the people of Kocaeli, as always, are standing by their state, nation, and flag, adding, "Thousands of our brothers and sisters are sharing in this joy. I commemorate the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our dear martyrs, and our heroic veterans with mercy, gratitude, and appreciation."

Metropolitan Mayor Tahir Büyükakın also conveyed that the celebrations are continuing with enthusiasm, stating that these celebrations show how every individual in the country is committed to the Republic and how they will protect its values, heritage, and future.

Büyükakın congratulated those who led the event and the divers, saying:

"These are not just the footsteps, but the very reality that Turkey will continue to rise with the same determination in the new century. I congratulate all our citizens who participated in this enthusiasm. I respectfully salute all the children of this nation, starting with Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, all those who fell as martyrs for the homeland, and those who are on duty at the borders keeping watch for the safety of the nation. I wish for us to remain standing for many more centuries."
