35 MPs had voted 'yes' in YENİ Party: Özgür Özel's framework law instruction from the closed group meeting leaked from the lobbies!

YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel decided to hold a closed group meeting before the framework law deliberations in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly.

Özel's remarks at the closed meeting, where he voted 'yes' on the framework law along with his executive colleagues, have leaked from the lobbies.

Nefes columnist Deniz Zeyrek, in his article titled "Özel, Gül, Gramsci and the Framework Law", claimed that the MPs who advocated for voting "yes" on the legislative proposal did not clearly express their views during the meeting.

Stating that one MP suggested the entire group should vote "yes" together, Zeyrek alleged that Özel left the MPs free in their voting preferences and said, "It would be good if there are at least 35 'yes' votes."

Deniz Zeyrek used the following expressions regarding the meeting:

"Özel gathered the TBMM Group behind closed doors before the general assembly deliberations of the legislative proposal. At the meeting, MPs drew attention to the high volume of messages from voters who wanted a 'no' vote. Mahmut Tanal suggested holding a referendum and asking the public for their decision. MPs who believed that a 'yes' vote should be cast for the law remained silent. One MP suggested, 'If the Chairman says 'yes', then the Yeni Party is considered to have said 'yes'. In that case, let us all say 'yes' and act as a whole.'

At the end of the meeting, Özel communicated the decision to the MPs as follows: 'The party's Group executives and MYK members should cast a 'yes' vote. Other colleagues should cast their votes by taking into account the demands of the voters in their electoral districts. However, it would be good if there are at least 35 'yes' votes.'"
