After Babacan, Davutoğlu also gives the green light to the AKP! 'The issue is the future of the state'
Gelecek Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu, who sat next to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the reception held for the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), responded to claims that he would join the AKP. Davutoğlu said, "If the state is in a difficult position, I would not hesitate, but I would not accept a symbolic position."
The fact that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan posed for photos with opposition leaders at the reception held for the opening of the TBMM on October 1 continues to be a hot topic. In particular, the friendly conversation between Gelecek Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu and DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, who sent deputies to the TBMM via CHP lists, and Erdoğan has dominated the agenda.
Appearing as a guest on the Çalar Saat program hosted by İlker Karagöz on NOW TV, Gelecek Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu responded to the question, "Would you accept if you were offered the vice presidency?" as follows:
"I know and understand the state. If I am told, 'The state is in a difficult position, the country's economy is at the point of bankruptcy. Come, let's restore this state,' I would not hesitate."
"I WOULD NOT ACCEPT A SYMBOLIC POSITION"
Stating that he would not accept it if he were offered a symbolic role, Davutoğlu said, "What is important to me is that authority and responsibility are balanced. Contributing to the reconstruction of the state is statesmanship."
"I AM NOT INVOLVED IN A PERSONAL MATTER"
Expressing that he does not have a personal problem with his former colleagues, Davutoğlu used the phrases, "I am not involved in a personal matter with anyone; the issue is the future of the state."
A SIMILAR STATEMENT FROM ALİ BABACAN
On the other hand, DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan also responded to a similar question on a program he was a guest on recently. Babacan had said, "I have neither resentment nor anger toward Tayyip Bey. I have no doubt about his love for the country and his belief in God. However, the point where we disagree is how this country should be governed. We even sat down and worked with the CHP. We do not categorically close our doors to anyone, but as of today, I do not see a will for change in Tayyip Bey or the AKP administration."
