Ahmet Türk's response to Erdoğan: 'I see it as a sign of weakness'
DEM Party Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee, gave a sharp response to President Erdoğan's remarks that "They are not elected mayors, but obscure figures appointed by the organization." The DEM Party's Türk stated, "Obscure figures have been usurping the will of the people for three terms. I find the words used shameful and view the accusations made as a sign of weakness."
Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee following a decision by the Ministry of Interior, responded to President Erdoğan's remarks: "They are not elected mayors, but obscure figures appointed by the organization."
Making a statement via his social media account, Türk said, "Obscure figures have been usurping the will of the people for three terms. I find the words used shameful and view the accusations made as a sign of weakness."
In his statement, Türk used the following expressions:
"There have not been, nor can there be, 'obscure figures' in our municipalities. However, obscure figures have been usurping the will of the people for three terms. I find the words used against someone who has dedicated 50 years to democratic politics shameful, and I view the accusations made as a sign of weakness."
