All defendants acquitted in trial of Boğaziçi University students

Protests that began at Boğaziçi University on January 4, 2021, following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's appointment of Melih Bulu as rector, continued until July 15, 2021. From the day the protests began, security forces, acting on orders from the rector's office, implemented strict security measures and did not permit any demonstrations or protests.

The trial of 70 people detained during the 'Pride March' held at Boğaziçi University on May 20, 2022, on charges of 'violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations,' 'resisting to prevent the performance of duty,' and 'insult' continued.

ACQUITTAL FOR DEFENDANTS

Announcing its verdict at the hearing, the court panel decided to drop the case against defendant Bilge Adım due to their passing. The other defendants were acquitted on the grounds that the elements of the alleged crimes were not met.
