Ban imposed following "Kurdish language rights demands" social media posts: 7-day protest ban from Governor's Office
In a statement issued by the Kocaeli Governor's Office, it was announced that all protests and events in the city have been banned for 7 days due to social media posts by the president and members of the "Kurdish Language Movement Association" regarding a planned march from the provincial borders to Ankara to draw attention to "Kurdish language rights demands."
In Kocaeli, actions and events such as marches, indoor and outdoor meetings, press statements, sit-ins, setting up stands, pitching tents, and distributing leaflets have been banned for 7 days.
The statement from the Governor's Office noted that social media posts were observed from the president and members of the "Kurdish Language Movement Association" regarding a planned march starting from the provincial borders to Ankara to draw attention to "Kurdish language rights demands."
In this context, the statement reported that certain decisions were taken for the purpose of 'ensuring national security, maintaining public order and safety, and protecting general security,' and included the following:
"In accordance with the provisions of Article 11, paragraphs (a) and (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, and Article 17 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911, all types of actions/events (marches, indoor and outdoor meetings, press statements, sit-ins, setting up stands, signature campaigns, pitching tents, lighting torches, distributing flyers/leaflets, brochures, protest actions, and similar) to be held within the provincial borders of Kocaeli, as well as the entry of vehicles and individuals arriving to support these actions into the provincial borders, have been banned for 7 days from 00:01 on October 31 to 23:59 on November 6."
