Behind the scenes of the DEM Party's visit to the CHP: Information from the corridors

In the critical meeting, the CHP emphasized that "Turkey's only problem is not the Kurdish issue. There is a need for democratization in every field," while CHP sources stated that this process would not evolve into a constitutional amendment.

DEM PARTY COMPLETED ITS VISITS

According to the report by Ünsal Ergel from Gerçek Gündem, the most critical meeting of the new process began in the morning at the TBMM in the office of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. With this meeting, the DEM Imralı delegation, consisting of Pervin Buldan, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, and Ahmet Türk, completed the round of meetings they started on January 2 with the parties represented in Parliament.

CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın, and CHP Deputy Chairman Gökçe Gökçen also attended the meeting with Özgür Özel.

COMMISSION PROPOSAL FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

Stating during the meeting with the DEM delegation that Turkey needs a comprehensive democratization initiative, Özel proposed the establishment of a "Social Consensus Commission" in the TBMM to determine the steps toward this initiative and suggested that it be formed with members from all parties.

According to information reflected from CHP corridors, Özel and his companions expressed their stance by saying, "We want to address all of Turkey's democracy problems. Is Turkey's only problem the Kurdish issue? Are all the people unjustly imprisoned in jail Kurdish? They are not. Democracy must be for everyone."

THE ISSUE OF CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

While it was stated that the DEM Imralı delegation also expressed a positive view on the CHP's proposal to establish a new commission, various assessments were made during the discussions regarding whether this process would evolve into a "constitutional amendment."

The CHP delegation also brought up concerns in the public eye that this initiated process would evolve into a new constitutional amendment and pave the way for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to serve another term.

CHP sources, however, said that although no concrete commitment came from those attending the meeting, the CHP was convinced after the meetings that the process would not evolve into a new constitutional amendment.

AHMET TÜRK AND THE TRUSTEE

The situation of Ahmet Türk, who is part of the DEM Imralı delegation, was also discussed during the CHP meeting. While CHP members recalled that a trustee was appointed to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality on the grounds that he was convicted of terrorism, it was stated that they asked, "Where should we place the fact that someone considered a terrorist by the government is conducting these meetings as an actor in the process in Parliament?"

"WHO WILL BE THE INTERLOCUTOR?"

During the meetings, the CHP members recalled the joint legislative proposal submitted by the opposition to end the trustee policy. Pointing out that bringing this proposal to the agenda and discussing it in Parliament would be a sincerity test for the process for the People's Alliance, the CHP delegation also asked the DEM delegation the question, "Who will the call to be made by Öcalan bind, and who will be its interlocutor?"

FREEDOM AND SECURITY DIMENSION

The CHP also had interesting observations during the meeting. Telling the DEM Imralı delegation, "The Kurdish issue has both a freedom dimension and a security dimension.
