BirGün files compensation lawsuit against Gürsel Tekin and Müslim Sarı

BirGün newspaper has initiated legal proceedings against Müslim Sarı, a spokesperson for the CHP administration, and Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP İstanbul Provincial Presidency. The newspaper has filed a non-pecuniary compensation lawsuit against the two individuals and has also submitted a criminal complaint to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

It was reported that a non-pecuniary compensation lawsuit for 950 liras was filed due to the statements made by Tekin and Sarı following the newspaper's report titled, "Scandal at Kılıçdaroğlu's badge ceremony: Hundreds of extras were brought to the ceremony for money."

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED

In the criminal complaint submitted to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by BirGün's lawyers, it was requested that an investigation be launched against Gürsel Tekin and Müslim Sarı for the crimes of "insult" and "slander" and that a public lawsuit be filed.

STATEMENTS AFTER THE REPORT BECAME THE SUBJECT OF THE LAWSUIT

In the newspaper's report, it was stated that it had been revealed with concrete evidence that some individuals who attended the CHP event were taken to the organization in exchange for 950 liras.

Following the report, Gürsel Tekin used the term "dirty media" for BirGün, claimed that a "FETÖ-like trap" had been set for them, and shared an audio recording on a live broadcast containing insults directed at the reporter who prepared the story, Ebru Çelik.

Müslim Sarı, meanwhile, criticized the newspaper with the words, "Hit-job journalism is incompatible with press ethics," and made comments suggesting that BirGün was "wearing a mask of journalism."
