Hilmi Tuna Kuriş and Erhan Yılmaz, who were wanted as part of an investigation into the community known as the Süleymancılar, were caught in Bozburun, Marmaris. It was determined that 58,000 euros were found in the vehicle used to transport the suspects, which was identified as being allocated to İdris Naim Şahin.
Hilmi Tuna Kuriş and Erhan Yılmaz, who were wanted as part of an operation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the community known as the Süleymancılar, were caught in the Bozburun neighborhood of the Marmaris district in Muğla.
It was stated that Hilmi Tuna Kuriş, the brother of Süleymancılar leader Alihan Kuriş, and Erhan Yılmaz were caught in an operation conducted while they were preparing to flee abroad.
CAUGHT IN BOZBURUN
Following intelligence that the two suspects would flee abroad, their location was determined by teams from the Istanbul Provincial Police Department. An operation was launched with the coordination of relevant units to apprehend the suspects.
Yasin Kaya, who was caught as part of the investigation, stated in his testimony that he worked as a driver at Elvan Gıda Ticaret in Istanbul and that they came to Bozburun from Istanbul on August 16 with Ahmet Hilmi Yılmaz, whom he described as the "boss's nephew."
Stating that they separated from each other in front of the Atatürk Statue when they reached Bozburun, Kaya expressed that a place had been arranged for him at a hotel and that he stayed there between August 16 and 18.
Fingerprint analysis was carried out at the vehicle and accommodation locations mentioned in the testimony of Kaya, who was arrested for "aiding and abetting a criminal."
Following Kaya's statements and the work carried out in the region, Muğla Provincial Police Department teams caught the fugitives Hilmi Tuna Kuriş and Erhan Yılmaz in Bozburun.
VEHICLE FOUND TO BE ALLOCATED TO İdris Naim ŞAHİN
According to information reported by CNN, the vehicle with license plate 34, used by Mehmet Özmen to transport the suspects to Muğla, was determined to have been allocated to former Interior Minister İdris Naim Şahin as a vehicle with right-of-way privileges until 2030.
It was stated that 58,000 euros were found during the search of the vehicle. During the inspection, it was also determined that the vehicle's light warning systems were contrary to regulations. For this reason, the vehicle was banned from traffic for 1 month.
It was assessed that a person named M.Ö. was driving the vehicle, that M.Ö. turned off his phone while traveling to Muğla on August 16, and that he returned to Istanbul after dropping off the suspects.
It was noted that M.Ö.'s phone line became active again on August 17 at 11:05 AM. Images of M.Ö. reflected on fuel station cameras and license plate recognition system (PTS) cameras along the Muğla route were also included in the investigation file.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As part of the investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out on August 13 in 17 provinces against the structure publicly known as the Süleymancılar. Of the suspects taken into custody, 32 people, including Alihan Kuriş, were arrested, and judicial control decisions were issued for six people.
During the search efforts for the fugitive Hilmi Tuna Kuriş, the brother of the arrested Alihan Kuriş, 200 kilograms of gold bullion worth 1.34 billion TL of unknown origin were found at the address, and the images were reflected in the press. Alihan Kuriş, in his statement, had said that the gold in question was jewelry left over from a wedding.
Kuriş and other suspects are facing charges of "establishing and managing a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "laundering assets derived from crime," "fraud," and "tax evasion." It was alleged that there was a money flow exceeding 100 billion TL through individuals and companies connected to the structure in the investigation.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç had previously announced that the operation was not directed at a religious community, but at the financial activities of the structure.
