The final declaration of the NATO Leaders' Summit held in Ankara has reaffirmed the alliance's commitment to Article 5, which forms the principle of collective defense, and to the transatlantic bond between Europe and North America. The declaration emphasized that the principle, under which an attack on one ally is considered an attack on all, remains the cornerstone of NATO.
The final declaration was released following the plenary session at the NATO Leaders' Summit, which began yesterday in the capital, Ankara, and concludes today.
While the declaration highlighted Article 5, NATO's most critical provision, it stated: "At the NATO Ankara Summit, an 'unwavering commitment' to NATO's Article 5, under which an attack on one ally is considered an attack on all, and to the transatlantic bond was reaffirmed."
The NATO Ankara Summit final declaration announced that allies have reached a new procurement agreement exceeding 50 billion dollars.
