Breaking News: New operation in IMM investigation: High-level figures detained

A new operation has been carried out within the scope of the investigations conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that detention warrants have been issued for 13 suspects.

In the statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the investigation is being conducted regarding the actions and activities of a criminal organization allegedly "established under the leadership of Ekrem İmamoğlu."

It was noted that the file also includes certain tender findings contained in the Preliminary Investigation Report prepared by the Ministry of Interior's Civil Inspection Board and expert reports. It was reported that the procurement of materials for the IMM Presidential residence is among the tenders in question.

According to the statement, the reports included assessments that "the tender process was rigged and public loss was caused" in some of the tenders.

In the simultaneous operation carried out on September 3, 2026, teams from the Istanbul Financial Crimes Investigation Branch detained 12 people. It was reported that efforts to apprehend one suspect, who is stated to be abroad, are ongoing.

Among those detained are IMM Head of Procurement Department Mustafa Sökmen, Branch Manager Responsible for City Restaurants Ali Toy, former IMM Head of Financial Affairs Department Neslihan Vural, and municipal police manager Gökhan Fırtına.
