Bus hits Turkish pilgrims in Mecca: Casualties reported

A fatal accident occurred on a route used by a group of Turkish pilgrims currently in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to perform their Umrah pilgrimage. The incident took place in the Mahbas al-Jinn area of Mecca, near the entrance to a tunnel.

Accident at the tunnel entrance

According to information obtained, one of the buses providing shuttle services between the Haram al-Sharif and hotels struck Turkish pilgrims who were attempting to cross the road to reach their hotel. The accident was reported to have occurred near the Mahbas Garage.

Abidin Dağköy, from Sakarya, lost his life at the scene after being struck by the bus, which reportedly lost control. Following the accident, other pilgrims in the area experienced a brief period of panic.

2 injured taken to hospital

It was reported that Emine Dağköy and Birol Yalçın, who were injured in the accident, were transported to the hospital by medical teams and are currently receiving treatment. No detailed information regarding the health status of the injured has been shared.

Investigation launched

While Saudi Arabian authorities have launched an investigation into the accident, the Turkish Consulate General in Jeddah became involved in the process immediately following the incident. Consulate officials announced that the necessary diplomatic and medical procedures have been initiated and that they are in contact with the affected families.
