Cabinet revision, new era in the judiciary: Names circulating in the corridors for Istanbul and Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices leaked

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has removed Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya from their posts. While Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek was appointed as the new Minister of Justice, Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi became the new Minister of Interior.

Sabah newspaper columnist Dilek Güngör, known for her proximity to the government, wrote about the names being discussed in the corridors for two critical chief prosecutor positions following Akın Gürlek's appointment from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Ministry of Justice.

Güngör used the following expressions in her social media post:

“Following Akın Gürlek becoming Minister of Justice, the names of Anatolian Chief Prosecutor Fatih Dönmez and Bakırköy Prosecutor Barış Duman are being mentioned for the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Can Tuncay may also come to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It seems Gürlek will be in the field with a strong team.”

TUNCAY WILL SERVE AS ACTING PROSECUTOR

It has been learned that after Gürlek began his duty as Minister of Justice, Can Tuncay will temporarily serve as the acting Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor.

It was stated that Tuncay, who currently serves as the Deputy Chief Prosecutor responsible for the Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, will continue this duty until a new appointment is made.
