Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained yesterday morning during a dawn raid on his home. Özer was brought to court in the evening and arrested. Following Özer's arrest, Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as a trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality.

Following the call, mayors set out to gather in front of the Esenyurt Municipality at 16:00. According to information obtained by 12Punto, Balıkesir Mayor Ahmet Akın, Çanakkale Mayor Muharrem Erkek, and Muğla Mayor Ahmet Aras have set off for Esenyurt.

Speaking to 12Punto, Çanakkale Mayor Muharrem Erkek stated, “We are facing an extremely grave and unjust situation.”

Erkek said the following:

“We need to stand by our colleague. Let us recall that the appointment of trustees based on alleged links to terrorism entered our lives with the Decree-Laws (KHK) issued during the State of Emergency. We are facing a practice that is contrary to the law. If a person is convicted and the crime is finalized, their mayorship ends. Accusing and arresting a person without a court verdict is a complete example of lawlessness.”

When asked about the participation in the Esenyurt call made to 411 mayors, Erkek said, “Most of our available mayors will be there.”

MANSUR YAVAŞ IS NOT ATTENDING

According to information obtained by 12Punto, one of the names all eyes were on, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, will not be at the gathering taking place in front of the Esenyurt Municipality at 16:00.

It was learned that Yavaş will not be able to go to Esenyurt because he will be attending a funeral program in the afternoon.
