CEO of company linked to exploding pagers in Lebanon placed under protection
Cristiana Barsony Arcidiacono, the CEO of the Hungarian firm BAC Consulting KFT, which sold the pagers that exploded in Lebanon, has been placed under protection by Hungarian intelligence services due to threats she received.
It has been reported that Cristiana Barsony Arcidiacono, the CEO of the Hungarian firm BAC Consulting KFT, has been placed under protection by Hungarian intelligence services following threats she received in connection with the sale of the pagers that were detonated in Lebanon.
Her mother, Beatrix Barsony Arcidiacono, stated in an interview with the Associated Press (AP) that her daughter had been taken to a safe location.
Mother Arcidiacono noted that Cristiana had received threats following the explosions in Lebanon and, as a result, was placed in a location protected by the Hungarian intelligence services.
Stating that Hungarian authorities had advised her daughter not to speak to the media, the mother expressed that Cristiana had no role in the incident and merely acted as an "intermediary."
CRISTIANA'S BACKGROUND
Cristiana Barsony Arcidiacono worked in Paris, France, and Vienna, Austria, before moving to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in 2016.
On her LinkedIn profile, it is noted that Arcidiacono, who holds a doctorate from University College London (UCL), conducted joint research with Akos Köver, a retired physics professor at UCL. Köver stated that he had no knowledge of Cristiana's other activities.
LINKS TO MOSSAD AND CONSULTING ROLE
It has been alleged that Cristiana, who is linked to the exploding pagers supplied to Lebanon, worked for the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad. Furthermore, it was revealed that Cristiana served as an "external expert" consultant for the European Union (EU) Commission's Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) between 2021 and 2023.
Speaking to the US-based NBC channel, Cristiana Barsony Arcidiacono admitted that she worked at BAC Consulting KFT and that the firm was an "intermediary" in the supply of thousands of pagers to Lebanon.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On September 17, simultaneous explosions occurred in pagers used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon. 14 people, including two children, lost their lives in the explosions, and 2,323 people were injured.
Following the detonation of numerous walkie-talkies in the country on September 18, 25 people died and more than 608 people were injured.
