CHP Chairman Özel: A very critical process took place during Davutoğlu's Prime Ministry

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu. The two held a private meeting at the Future Party Headquarters and held a joint press conference afterward. Touching upon the US/Israel and Iran war, Özel stated that there are no winners in war and expressed that this conflict is significantly affecting the global economy. Furthermore, Özel reiterated his proposal for an early election or a by-election, which he had previously voiced during his visit to the İYİ Party.

Stating that 11 economists serving in the Presidential Candidate Office (CAO) have been working on oil prices, particularly due to the war in Iran, Özel said, "First of all, we are constantly keeping the issue on our agenda with our Prime Minister regarding what is happening in Iran, already through occasional phone calls and sometimes through approaches where he leads calls to the international community. We had worked together on the petition campaign he led regarding the young girls who lost their lives in the airstrikes carried out in the early days. Starting from there, there was an opportunity to mutually express and listen to the Republican People's Party's thoughts and approaches on this issue, as well as the esteemed Prime Minister's valuable analyses and evaluations. The Republican People's Party has an Economic Coordination Council. We have work done by our 11 economist colleagues who have served in our Central Executive Board and the CAO, specifically regarding energy costs triggered by the rise in oil prices due to what is happening in Iran. We had an emergency action plan that proposed both how to protect vulnerable groups and what measures should be taken against this extraordinary situation that could hinder Turkey's development. We have presented our work on this matter to them," he said.

Expressing that Turkey went through an important turning point during Davutoğlu's prime ministry, Özel said, "Besides this, in recent days, or rather, whoever we talk to among the chairmen, when the subject comes to the Political Morals-Political Ethics Law and the financing of politics, we do not open the topic without mentioning the esteemed Prime Minister. Because a very critical process took place in Turkey during Davutoğlu's term as Prime Minister. In those days, certain efforts were being carried out that would have made free movement and visa-free travel to Europe possible for Turkey. One of the four missing items on Turkey's agenda there was already the Political Morals Law. He showed a very determined stance there. He said that besides Europe's expectations, this was a debt and a responsibility that politics in Turkey and all politicians owed to the nation that elected them. He carried out work on this issue with great determination. We all watched his and his team's determined stance against the different disagreements within the Justice and Development Party that day, all of Turkey watched it," he stated.

Support from Davutoğlu for early election or by-election

Davutoğlu, for his part, expressed that an early election or a by-election is necessary, and that they are open to and would support the proposals of opposition parties on this matter.
