Following the Constitutional Court's rejection of the request to invalidate the YENİ Party's name and emblem and remove them from the political party registry, a statement has come from YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel.
Evaluating the decision, Özel stated that the party's name was determined by the public's demand and reminded that they had previously stated they would not change the name.
"The nation gave the instruction to establish the party. The nation established and gave it its name on the streets, in squares, in homes, and in villages, and the nation said; 'Establish the YENİ Party, establish the YENİ Party.' We did not look for a name while establishing it. We said if our nation says YENİ Party, then it will be YENİ Party."

Özel stated that they conducted an investigation regarding name similarity before their establishment application and that their application was accepted by the Ministry of Interior. Arguing that the name debates were brought to the agenda intentionally, Özel said they received opinions from academics on this matter and submitted those opinions to the Constitutional Court.
Recalling his statements from last month, Özel said, "There is a very positive opinion, and we will go to the Constitutional Court; we will not change our name. And we said we believe that the name of the YENİ Party will remain YENİ Party. Today, the Constitutional Court has made a decision in this direction. May it be auspicious."
Özel responded to the objections regarding his party's name with the words, "Nothing can happen against the will of the nation. If the nation has given the party its name, the nation will not change it for anyone just because those who are uncomfortable with the rise of the YENİ Party want it to."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The process began with an objection filed by the Yenilik Party on the grounds that the name YENİ Party bore a similarity to its own party name. In the file brought to the Constitutional Court by the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor, it was requested that the YENİ Party's name and emblem be declared invalid and removed from the political party registry.
The Constitutional Court had granted the YENİ Party time to submit its defense during its evaluation on September 29; at its meeting on October 21, it rejected the request in question.
