CHP Chairman Özel: The peace and prosperity of Syria will also benefit Turkey

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel attended the Social Peace and Democracy Conference held by his party at the Istanbul Congress Center.

Describing the conference as the beginning of a series of meetings they designed under the name 'Common Future Meetings,' CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, "We believe that we can overcome the multiple crises our country, our region, and the world are experiencing with the awareness that our past and our future are shared.

Yes; we are experiencing multiple crises in our country, in our region, and in the world. This hall brings together multiple identities, political affiliations, worldviews, and lifestyles. This is exactly our expectation and our goal; to succeed in overcoming multiple crises by standing side-by-side with our multiple identities; to unite in the dream of a free, fair, and peaceful future for Turkey," he said.

"WE ADVOCATE FOR CONSENSUS AND PEACE"

Stating that they want Syria's territorial integrity, political stability, and the coexistence of all faiths and identities under constitutional protection, CHP leader Özgür Özel said, "Those who look at the region through the lens of their own power calculations can call something 'white' today and 'black' tomorrow. Imperialist states, as they have throughout history, do not consider the interests of these lands, but their own interests.

Our path must be to wage a struggle where Turks, Kurds, Arabs, Shiites, Alevis, and Druze will all win together. The Turkmens, Kurds, and Arabs in Syria are all our relatives, our brothers and sisters. In this context, we openly reject the old, destructive, and exclusionary rhetoric that targets Kurds, damages their dignity, and attempts to reproduce the perception that 'Kurd equals terrorist.' We have not bowed, and we will not bow, to any policy that hurts Kurds in Turkey or their relatives in Syria. We advocate for consensus and peace, not conflict and war," he said.

Expressing that the Kurdish issue is a matter for a common solution, Özel said, "As with every issue in the country, we have stood, are standing, and will continue to stand on the right side of history in the resolution of the Kurdish issue. Because this issue is a common issue for all of us. This issue is a heavy social burden carried for generations. Today, our nation wants to be rid of this burden and find relief. Our nation wants terrorism to end, peace to be built, and democracy to stand tall," he said.
