CHP's Gökçe Gökçen: 'We Were All at Gezi!'

The investigation launched against talent manager Ayşe Barım over allegations of 'monopolization' in the TV and film industry has been expanded. Barım was detained in the morning hours on the grounds of her participation in the Gezi Park Protests.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has deepened the investigation through the Gezi Park Protests, and numerous actors known to have participated in the 2013 demonstrations, such as Mehmet Günsür, Rıza Kocaoğlu, Dolunay Soysert, and Halit Ergenç, have also been summoned to testify.

CHP Deputy Chair responsible for the Ministry of Justice and İzmir MP Gökçe Gökçen reacted to Barım's detention on charges of “attempting to overthrow the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties.”

'EVERYONE'S FREEDOM IS IN DANGER'

Stating "Millions of people were at Gezi. We were all at Gezi," she said:

“One would think they are responsible for the deaths of 78 people. But no. It's Gezi again. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office fixates on someone, first tries to fabricate a crime on social media, and if that doesn't fit, looks for new crimes. The task of gathering evidence is left to time. With this logic, everyone's freedom is in danger. Millions of people were at Gezi. We were all at Gezi. We know it causes you great pain, but you will not be able to erase from memory what millions of young people experienced at Gezi, and you will not be able to erase history and rewrite it.”
