CHP's first reaction to dawn raids on IMM: 'A network of betrayal is attacking the IMM'

A new operation has been added to those conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). While detention warrants were issued for 53 people as part of the latest operation, it was reported that 47 individuals have been taken into custody so far.

It was learned that the detention list includes high-level figures such as the IMM Chief of Staff, former and current deputy secretaries-general, group heads, general managers, deputy general managers, and department heads.

CHP Group Deputy Chairs Gökhan Günaydın and Ali Mahir Başarır reacted sharply to the operations. In a post on his social media account, Gökhan Günaydın stated, "Another major operation against the IMM on a Saturday morning... Yesterday against lawyers, today against bureaucrats... There is a broad detention list consisting of the IMM Chief of Staff, new and former deputy secretaries-general, group heads, general managers, deputy general managers, and department heads. The IMM is being rendered effectively unable to function."

Başarır, claiming that the purpose of the operation is related to the Kanal Istanbul project, made the following statement:

"A handful of deranged networks of betrayal are attacking the IMM! This operation is being carried out after İSKİ issued a demolition order for TOKİ residences on the Kanal Istanbul route, which threatens Istanbul's drinking water source in the Sazlıdere Dam basin! This operation is directed at the guardians of Istanbul who stand in the way of the rent and plunder project, Kanal Istanbul! Istanbul will not surrender! Turkey will not surrender!"
