Confession in the Gülistan Doku investigation: 'Murder confession' letter from imprisoned Umut Altaş

Shocking developments continue to emerge in the investigation into Munzur University student Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli in 2020 and is believed to have been murdered. A "confession letter" sent to the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by Umut Altaş, who is currently imprisoned in the US, has targeted Mustafa Türkay Sonel, the son of the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel.

"I KILLED A GIRL, MY FATHER HANDLED IT, WE BURIED THE BODY"

Speaking to Akşam newspaper's Washington Representative Yavuz Atalay in prison and subsequently sending a letter to the prosecutor's office, Umut Altaş made terrifying allegations regarding the night of the murder and its aftermath. The prominent statements in Altaş's letter are as follows:

Altaş stated that on the night of the murder, Mustafa Türkay Sonel picked him up by car, that he felt a strong smell of blood and a corpse in the vehicle, and that he wiped the gun found in the passenger seat and placed it in the glove compartment.

Claiming that while sitting at home some time after the incident, Sonel told him, "I killed a girl, she was screaming a lot, we were in the car, I couldn't take it, I shot her in the head," Altaş alleged that when he asked, "What did your father do?" he received the response, "He already handled it, he arranged some things. We buried her."

"DARK NETWORK OF RELATIONS": GOVERNOR AND HIS INNER CIRCLE ARRESTED

Deepening the investigation, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office pressed the button for a large-scale operation in line with the digital materials reached and the allegations:

Within the scope of the investigation, the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, his bodyguard Şükrü Eroğlu, former police officer Gökhan Ertok, and the governor's son Mustafa Türkay Sonel were arrested and sent to prison on charges of "damaging/destroying data in an information system," "deprivation of liberty," "qualified robbery," and "concealing evidence of a crime."

In the prosecution's referral document, it was pointed out that evidence was concealed using public authority on the night of the incident and afterwards, and that an organized network of relations had been established. With the arrest of the key figures in the file, it is expected that the murder, which has remained in the dark for years, will be clarified in all its aspects.
