Crime scene investigation teams continue work at burned-out nightclub in Beşiktaş

Crime scene investigation teams are examining evidence related to the fire that broke out at the nightclub operating on the basement floors -1 and -2 of a 16-story building on Gönenoğlu Street, Yıldız Posta Avenue in Gayrettepe.

Citizens who were evacuated from the building, where electricity and natural gas were cut off for the investigation, came to their apartments during the day to retrieve some of their belongings, while municipal cleaning crews disposed of items that had become unusable due to the fire.

Mehmet Enver Horozoğlu (77), who stated that he worked on the architectural drawings of the building, spoke to members of the press waiting in front of the building.

'THERE WAS A PASSAGEWAY ABOVE'

Stating that he worked as a senior engineer and architect alongside the building's architect Zeki Öztekin, Horozoğlu said, "We designed the basement here as a cinema. I remember we drew it in 1972. There was a balcony above, and on that balcony, there was a cinema projection room and such. There was a passageway above, there was an entrance from the passageway, but it had an exit; it wasn't just a single entrance, it had an exit. It wouldn't have been approved by the municipality without an entrance and exit."
