Critical audit from the SSI for retirees: Irregular pensions are being canceled

The Social Security Institution (SSI) launched a comprehensive review process regarding retirement procedures starting from the beginning of 2025. In this practice, where premium payments and insurance processes from the last five years in particular are being meticulously audited, serious sanctions have come to the agenda for retirees where irregularities were detected.

Official notifications were sent to retirees identified as suspicious during the screening work carried out by SSI experts. These individuals were requested to go to their local provincial or district directorates within three business days of the notification to present their defense. The pensions of citizens who did not exercise their right to defense or whose irregularities were confirmed during the investigation have begun to be terminated.

As of August, it was announced that the pensions of many retirees across the country would be canceled and that new notification letters would reach these individuals. It was stated that the SSI is sending the aforementioned notifications directly to the addresses of the relevant retirees.

The practice is not limited to just the termination of pensions. According to the institution's legislation, retirees whose pensions are terminated are required to repay all payments received along with legal interest. If this debt is not paid, severe sanctions such as foreclosure and even imprisonment are on the agenda. However, the right of retirees to apply to the judiciary against the cancellation decision is reserved.

It was stated that informative letters regarding the suspension of their pensions have been sent to citizens whose defenses have been taken since January. On the other hand, it was stated that no separate notification will be made to retirees whose investigations are still ongoing due to suspicion of irregularity or who have not been found to have any violations.

SSI officials recommend that all retirees seriously follow the official notifications and warnings they receive to avoid grievances during this process and to obtain information through the institution's communication channels regarding any suspicious matters.
