Critical change in the police force: Intelligence Branch Chief Gökhan Yücel reassigned

It has been learned that Intelligence Branch Chief Gökhan Yücel was removed from his position during a personnel change that took place at the Ankara Police Department over the weekend.

According to T24, Yücel's removal occurred following a direct instruction given by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to Ankara Police Chief Engin Dinç. It was noted that Yücel was assigned to the Police Academy Presidency following this decision.

It was stated that no new appointment has been made to replace Yücel yet. It is reported that the administrations of the General Directorate of Security and the Intelligence Presidency are closely monitoring these developments.

According to allegations circulating behind the scenes, the reason behind this sudden change involves an internet post concerning the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

It is alleged that Yücel forwarded claims regarding the prosecutor's office found in an internet post—which had been blocked from access—to a bureaucrat with whom he has a close relationship. Subsequently, this information was relayed to a high-level member of the judiciary. This flow of information led to tension between the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the police.

It was noted that following the reactions, the administration of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office conveyed their discomfort directly to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. It was stated that Minister Yerlikaya instructed Ankara Police Chief Engin Dinç to remove Yücel from his post to prevent the issue from escalating.

Following the instruction, Gökhan Yücel was removed from his current position without waiting for the start of the week and was assigned to the staff of the Police Academy Presidency on the same day. All eyes are now on who will be appointed as the new Ankara Police Intelligence Branch Chief.
