DEM Party reacts to trustee appointment: 'It is a political assassination'

DEM Party reacts to trustee appointment: 'It is a political assassination'

The government's trustee operations targeting municipalities continue. As part of an investigation into the terrorist organization PKK at the Mersin Akdeniz Municipality, Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız was detained and arrested along with council members. Akdeniz District Governor Zeyit Şener has been appointed as a trustee to replace Sarıyıldız.

DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç have issued reactions. Both Bakırhan and Oruç made statements via their social media accounts.

'IT IS A POLITICAL ASSASSINATION'

Describing the developments as a 'political assassination', Tuncer Bakırhan stated the following:

"Our Akdeniz Municipality Co-Mayors and council members have been taken hostage as part of political genocide operations. A trustee has been appointed to our municipality, which was elected by the will of the people of Akdeniz.

The appointment of a trustee to our Akdeniz municipality is an open coup against democracy. It is a political assassination committed against the hope of peoples living together. We reject it.

While internal peace is being discussed on one hand, the usurpation of the people's will on the other is a mental blackout. We call for this mental blackout to be abandoned immediately. We reiterate our promise to escalate our democratic struggle against trustee tyranny, coups against democracy, and hostility toward Kurds. The oppressors and tyrants will lose, the people will win!"
'TRUSTEES WILL GO'

In her statement, Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç, who evaluated the trustee appointments with the words, "It is a tyranny to sweep away the remaining crumbs of democracy", said the following:

"The government has once again carried out a coup against the popular will through the judiciary under its command. Our Akdeniz Municipality Co-Mayors Nuriye Aslan, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız, and our council members have been arrested and trustees have been appointed in their place. A new page has been added to the dark chapters of Turkey's history.

A trustee is a denial of the popular will. It is a tyranny to sweep away the remaining crumbs of democracy. Trustee tyranny is the code for the plunder of cities.

Internal peace is not achieved through trustees; it is achieved through democracy and freedoms. We do not accept this usurpation of will that has taken place while we are trying to grow the hope for peace!

We call on everyone who believes in democracy and living together to take a democratic stance against the government's trustee tyranny. The trustees will go and we will definitely win!"
