Detention over social media post claiming '26 children poisoned, 3 died' in Istanbul

Detention over social media post claiming '26 children poisoned, 3 died' in Istanbul

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that A.Y. has been detained for sharing a post on social media claiming that 26 children were poisoned and 3 had died due to food purchased from a school canteen.

According to the statement from the Governor's Office, it was determined that A.Y., who resides in Sultanbeyli, shared the aforementioned claim on their social media account. The statement noted that the claims in the post were of a nature intended to mislead the public.

Judicial proceedings have been initiated against the suspect, who was detained by police teams today.

It was reported that the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Press Crimes Investigation Bureau has initiated proceedings against A.Y. for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code.
