DMM statement on 'seizure authority'

In a statement issued by the DMM, it was noted that false claims have been shared in some press and social media outlets suggesting that "prosecutors have been granted the authority to directly seize individuals' assets," and that these claims are baseless and constitute disinformation intended to mislead the public.

Reminding that legislative power belongs exclusively to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in accordance with Article 7 of the Constitution, the statement noted the following:

"There is currently no work on the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding this matter. On the other hand, technical-level studies are being conducted between relevant institutions, primarily the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Ministry of Justice, as a preparatory measure to combat crimes such as aggravated fraud, aggravated theft, and the misuse of bank/credit cards, and as a requirement of international agreements to which we are a party. These activities are a natural part of the legislative process and do not yet have a binding nature. It is kindly requested that the public not give credence to content that has not been verified and is spread for manipulative purposes."
