Erdal Beşikçioğlu responds to Tamer Karadağlı's 'The Tulip Era is over' remarks
CHP Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu has responded to the "The Tulip Era is over" remarks made by State Theatres General Manager Tamer Karadağlı regarding the institution's artists.
Tamer Karadağlı, who was appointed as the General Manager of State Theatres by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, recently made a statement targeting the institution's artists.
Stating that "The Tulip Era is over," Karadağlı used the following expressions in his statement:
"It does not seem right for anyone to sit around for years just collecting a salary while saying, 'I am an actor,' 'I am a theater performer.' I say, 'If you are not going to work, resign'... I tell many of our colleagues, 'Go act in TV series and movies, earn money, be visible, let your name carry brand value.' I support this, and I give permission to everyone. But on the condition that they 'do not neglect their primary duties' in their contracts.
Some of our actors have not performed for 15 years. They are shooting TV series outside, they have their own private theaters, they collect a salary, but they do not work. These people resigned. The Tulip Era is over. Their numbers were not very high. There are many actors who want to work. I am not paying the incentives of the actor who does not work."
Criticizing these words by Karadağlı, Gaye Filiz Alacacı, one of the Ankara State Theatre artists, announced that she was summoned to the General Directorate of State Theatres and interrogated.
Alacacı filed a complaint against Tamer Karadağlı, his advisor Görkem Ali Kaya, and his chief of staff Ali Ceyhan.
Following these allegations, the Ministry appointed an inspector at the request of the State Theatres.
RESPONSE FROM ERDAL BEŞİKÇİOĞLU
While the allegations regarding Tamer Karadağlı remain on the agenda, CHP Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, who previously served as the General Manager of State Theatres, made an implicit statement on the subject.
Beşikçioğlu said the following regarding the matter:
"It depends on how Tamer Karadağlı interprets the Tulip Era, but the State Theatres have not been in a Tulip Era for 20 years; they have been experiencing a period of decline. I think this reality needs to be realized as soon as possible."
