Ertuğrul Özkök evaluates Öcalan's statements: 'Not enough, but yes'

Ertuğrul Özkök evaluates Öcalan's statements: 'Not enough, but yes'

PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan met with DEM Party members Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder. During the meeting, Öcalan told Buldan and Önder that he is "ready to make a call" regarding the process that began with MHP leader Bahçeli's overture on October 22.

Evaluating Öcalan's statements from the meeting with the DEM deputies in his column on 10haber, Ertuğrul Özkök recalled that the AKP had also supported the former Solution Process and said "Not enough, but yes" to the new process.

'I HAD SAID 'YES' TO THE FIRST ONE WITH ALL MY HEART'

The relevant parts of Özkök's article are as follows:

"I had voted 'No' in that well-known referendum.

Some of my friends, whom I have known for perhaps 50 years, had said 'Not enough, but yes.'

That day, their 'not enough, but yes' had won.

But the years that have passed showed that if my 'no' vote had won, it would have been more beneficial for this country…

The 'yes' votes of those who said 'not enough, but yes' and 'even those rising from the grave say yes' broke the arms and wings of justice, the judiciary, and democracy in this country.
But I also agree with the answer that came from İmralı yesterday.

Look at fate, a situation has arisen in this country where I, too, will say 'not enough, but yes.'

Yes, yesterday we learned from the statement published with the DEM letterhead that Abdullah Öcalan also says 'yes' to the second solution process.

I had said 'yes' to the first one with all my heart.

Looking at Öcalan's statement yesterday, I shouted the word 'yes' again.

But this time, 'not enough, but yes…'

Most of our friends who said 'not enough, but yes' with good intentions that day were later deeply disappointed.

I hope the 'not enough, but yes' I say today does not disappoint me either.

Because the possibility of me being disappointed is not low at all.

In the statement published yesterday with the DEM letterhead, Abdullah Öcalan speaks of 'Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood'…

On such a day, I address Mr. Bahçeli and Mr. Erdoğan with Öcalan's protocol and say the following:

Since the PKK leader wants 'Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood,'

I am demanding 'Turkish-Turkish brotherhood' from you.

I am saying that the prison door of Öcalan, a Kurdish member of this country, is opening…

Since you, who in the past called him a 'baby killer,' are now saying 'Let him come and speak in Parliament' and are offering him 'new life opportunities'…

Since we are ready to open the paths to freedom for Öcalan, whom you still see as the leader of those roaming the mountains with guns in their hands, for the sake of bringing peace to the country…

I am saying,

Mr. Bahçeli… Mr. Erdoğan…

You are doing very well.

Since the doors of the Sednaya prisons in Damascus are being opened and political prisoners are being released…

Since the doors of İmralı are being opened…

I also support these initiatives of Mr. Bahçeli and Mr. Erdoğan…

I support them so much that I am going one step further than them.

I am saying…

Since the PKK leader is being set free…

Let Selahattin Demirtaş, who has never held a gun or fired a single bullet to this day, also be set free.

Since we are establishing 'Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood'…

Let us also establish 'Turkish-Turkish brotherhood' in this polarized, divided country…

Since our ruling front is making peace with the Kurds…

Let it also try making peace with the Turks.

Let us all walk hand in hand toward a real peace.
That is why I say 'not enough, but yes.'

Yes to negotiations with Öcalan.

But I also want camaraderie with the Turks who do not vote for the ruling party.

I do not want the people of this country who do not vote for the People's Alliance to be treated as second-class citizens.

If we want to bring internal peace to this country and strengthen the internal front…

Let us show at least half of the affection we show to PKK leader Öcalan

As a person who loves their country, of course, I say 'yes' with all my heart to such a statement with a DEM letterhead.

But I also expect Ankara, which is taking these brave steps to make peace with the Kurds, to take steps that require no courage at all toward Silivri and Edirne.
