Fake diploma sellers interviewed by 12punto claimed 'there are people working in the state': CoHE takes action on fake diplomas

The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) has intervened in the issue of fake diplomas being printed for money on social media. CoHE sent a letter to universities titled "News Regarding Fake Diplomas in the Press" to provide information. Last week, 12punto contacted scammers who print fake diplomas, asked about the validity of these diplomas in government offices, and exposed the conversation.

Fake diploma sellers interviewed by 12punto claimed 'there are people working in the state': CoHE takes action on fake diplomas

For some time now, posts containing "preparation of CoHE and e-Government approved fake diplomas" have been published on various social media channels.

Scammers continue to openly advertise themselves by promising e-Government approval and guaranteed employment in private and public institutions. CoHE has finally intervened in this matter, which is on the agenda.

A letter titled "News Regarding Fake Diplomas in the Press" was sent from CoHE to universities.

The letter stated that in recent days, news reports have appeared in some print media outlets claiming that "fake diplomas belonging to the faculties of many different universities in Turkey are being sold through some accounts on social media."

Reminding that student and graduate documents are generated via the e-Government portal using student information transferred to YÖKSİS by higher education institutions, the letter noted the following:

'THERE IS A PERSONALIZED NUMBER ON THE BARCODE'

"Individuals who log in to the e-Government portal with their T.R. identity number and password can enter the 'Higher Education Graduate Document Inquiry' section under the Council of Higher Education Presidency, print the document containing their own graduation information, and submit this document to the public institution or private company where they will declare it.

There is a personalized number on the barcode located in the upper right corner of the graduation document. People who receive this document to be presented with a diploma can, if they wish, verify the document using the barcode number through the 'Higher Education Graduate Document Verification' section on the e-Government portal. The authenticity of the diploma can be confirmed by ensuring that the information on the document matches the information on the diploma."

The letter stated that the responsibility for any problems arising from the inability to perform "Higher Education Graduate Document Inquiry" and "Higher Education Graduate Document Verification" via e-Government due to the failure of higher education institutions to transfer the information of their graduates to YÖKSİS lies with the relevant higher education institution, and therefore, it was requested that the transfer of all graduate information to YÖKSİS be completed urgently.

12PUNTO CONTACTED THE SCAMMERS

As 12punto, we contacted the scammers who claim to print fake diplomas. When we asked the scammer we communicated with via WhatsApp, "Can we work in state institutions with a fake diploma?" we received the answer, "Yes, you can work in state institutions. There are people who have bought diplomas from us and are working in the state."
