Fatih Erbakan's 'CHP-conditional' support for Mansur Yavaş's candidacy: We would not consider it
New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) Chairman Fatih Erbakan has announced the conditions under which he would support Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş's presidential candidacy.
Erbakan stated, "The CHP has put forward its own candidate. Mr. Tayyip is there. Mr. Mansur emerged as a candidate for these right-wing parties. We also emerged. At this point, if we cannot make it to the second round, it is possible that we could support a Mr. Mansur who is the candidate of right-wing parties in the second round. But if he is the CHP's candidate, as I said, we would not consider giving support in any way."
Speaking on the Haberler.com YouTube channel, Erbakan answered the question, "In a second-round equation between President Erdoğan and Mansur Yavaş, which name would you support?" by saying, "We would support Mr. Mansur in the second round, but we would not support him if he were the CHP's candidate."
Key highlights from Erbakan's statements are as follows:
"We will make every effort to make it to the second round and win the election. There is no doubt about this. But let's say we couldn't make it to the second round. And Mr. Mansur entered the election as a candidate for right-wing parties with reasonable views. At such a point, Mr. Mansur could be supported.
But if Mr. Mansur runs against Mr. Erdoğan as the CHP's candidate, if he is the CHP's candidate, it would of course not be possible for us to support him in the second round either.
So it happened like this. The CHP put forward its own candidate.
