Foreign Minister Fidan speaks on Gaza: 'We are falling into a major risk scenario'

Foreign Minister Fidan speaks on Gaza: 'We are falling into a major risk scenario'

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke at a joint press conference held following his meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha.

Minister Fidan stated that what has been happening in Gaza since October 7 has wounded the conscience of all humanity, using the expression, "The targeting of our Palestinian brothers and sisters—regardless of whether they are children, the sick, or the elderly—even in schools, hospitals, and mosques, constitutes a crime against humanity. Everyone with a conscience must put a stop to this brutality being committed before the eyes of the entire world."

Emphasizing that they in no way accept the attacks that target innocent civilians in Gaza and have turned into collective punishment, Fidan noted the following:

"We will also not consent to the uprooting and expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland in Gaza. This is not only an act of oppression against the Palestinians, but it will also be a development that will lead to the destabilization of Egypt, Jordan, and Beirut. Israel must urgently turn back from this mistake. A ground operation against Gaza will turn this brutality into a full-scale massacre. Measures that can be taken to stop the war and the attacks on civilians in Gaza are of urgent necessity. A ceasefire must be declared immediately, and a corridor for humanitarian aid must be established."

Pointing out that there is greater destruction and death in Gaza compared to past sieges, Fidan assessed, "Especially this time, the cutting off of electricity and water and the prevention of basic humanitarian supplies from entering Gaza are leading to a greater humanitarian catastrophe, and this catastrophe is ongoing. The fundamental problem is that as death and destruction increase, the reaction to this in the region will naturally be greater, and it is not possible to predict the consequences that this reaction will bring about; however, we know this: we have a peaceful solution and plan that we can put forward as an alternative. If we uphold this, it is possible for us to move away from these risks as of now, but otherwise, we are increasingly falling into a major risk scenario."
