Frightening earthquake in Konya felt in surrounding provinces! Expert statement follows immediately

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake has occurred in the Kulu district of Konya. According to AFAD data, the earthquake, which took place at 15:46, was measured at a depth of 18.73 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake is located 5.39 kilometers from the Kirkkuyu area of Kulu district and 6.39 kilometers from the Şereflikoçhisar district of Ankara.

The earthquake was felt in surrounding provinces, primarily in Ankara. Citizens who felt the tremor panicked and took to the streets, causing a brief period of alarm. No loss of life or property has been reported so far.

AHMET ERCAN: I DO NOT EXPECT A LARGE EARTHQUAKE

Making a statement on his social media account following the earthquake, Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan stated that the earthquake occurred on the Kulu-Tavşancalı fracture. Expressing that this fracture is a part of the Tuz Gölü Fault Line, Ercan made the following assessment:

“The M5.2 small earthquake, which occurred on the Kulu-Tavşancalı fracture passing through the Kulu district of Konya, is the source of the earthquake in Kulu and its surroundings. Because the fracture extends toward Ankara and its focus was shallow, Ankara was shaken. I do not expect a larger earthquake.”
