Istanbul earthquake statement from Şener Üşümezsoy! 'All aftershocks lined up here...'
Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy, who has recently been in the spotlight for his earthquake predictions, made striking statements regarding the risky fault lines in Istanbul.
Istanbul is one of the first cities that comes to mind when earthquake risk is mentioned. The 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri on April 23 had once again increased concerns in the mega-city.
Now, all eyes are on which fault lines pose a danger. Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy pointed to two critical fault lines in the Sea of Marmara.
"THERE ARE NO OTHER FAULTS LEFT TO BREAK AFTER THIS"
Stating that "There are two faults in the Marmara that have not broken and carry risk," Üşümezsoy made the following remarks during his assessment on Sözcü TV using a map:
“One is inside the Silivri trough. The other is in the place we call the Kumburgaz trough, this fault is between Silivri and Kumburgaz. And I am saying that after this breaks, there are no other faults left to break; I am not saying there will be no more earthquakes.”
"ALL THE AFTERSHOCKS LINED UP HERE"
Emphasizing that there are different views in academic circles, Üşümezsoy continued as follows:
“There are 40 professors, and while they all say the area shown in black from end to end will break, I say no, only the Kumburgaz trough and this fault will break. Nature is listening to me, too. All the aftershocks came and lined up here. What we call the Kumburgaz trough is situated inside the sea.”
"I HAVE BEEN DESCRIBING IT FOR 20 YEARS"
Üşümezsoy claimed that the views he has been expressing for years were confirmed by the April 23 earthquake:
“The fault that broke in the April 23 earthquake is determined by the aftershocks. Where is it? Exactly on this fault that I have been describing for 20 years. There are no aftershocks in the Islands or opposite Avcılar. The aftershocks are in the weak areas.”
