Gürsel Tekin to remain as trustee in CHP Istanbul: First statement from Özgür Çelik

The hearing in the case filed at the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance for the cancellation of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress has been adjourned to May 15. The court decided that Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as trustee, and his committee shall continue their duties.

CHP'S OBJECTION: "FILES SHOULD BE MERGED"

Taking the floor during the hearing, CHP lawyer Çağlar Çağlayan stated that the case should be handled in terms of procedure and reiterated the request for the files to be merged. Çağlayan said, "What this court must do is to merge this case with the previously opened pending case. The file contains a request from the elected provincial chairman who will be affected by the outcome of the case. The case has become moot as the congress has been held at least twice."

"THE APPOINTMENT DECISION EXACERBATED THE PROBLEM"

Continuing his statements, lawyer Çağlayan used the following expressions:

"The person who introduces himself as the provincial chairman has no place in politics. Courts make decisions to solve real-life problems. This appointment decision has personally exacerbated the problem and created the appearance of a rift within the political party."

TRUSTEESHIP DECISION CONTINUES

The court panel cited the fact that the previously issued interim injunction had been upheld by the appellate court. Concluding that no new situation or condition had arisen, the panel ruled for the continuation of the injunction for the time being. Thus, Gürsel Tekin's trusteeship will continue.

SHARP REACTION FROM ÖZGÜR ÇELİK

Following the decision, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik objected to the situation with harsh words. According to the report in Medyascope, Çelik said, "The police are still coming. There are three certificates of election, I brought them all. The court is being dragged on with false statements. You will set a date, this hearing will be postponed now. But a political party building cannot be used. We are hurting."

Upon the court president's response of "It does not concern me," Çelik reacted by saying, "We are hurting because of your decision."
