Hayloft caught fire during chimney cleaning, house burned
A fire broke out while a chimney was being cleaned in the Alaca district of Çorum. In the fire, a hayloft and 120 bales of hay stored inside were reduced to ashes, while the house was saved at the last moment through the intensive efforts of the fire department.
The incident occurred in the village of Yeşilyurt in Alaca. According to the information obtained, Zafer Sakınmaz, who resides in Yeşilyurt village, climbed onto the roof of his house to clean the chimney. He lit a fire to clean the chimney, but the flames spread from the chimney to the hayloft, causing a fire. Upon the notification of neighbors who noticed the fire, gendarmerie teams, Alaca Municipality fire department teams, and construction equipment were dispatched to the scene. While 120 bales and the hayloft were reduced to ashes in the fire, the flames that spread to the house were brought under control and extinguished before they could grow, thanks to the intervention of the Alaca Municipality fire department teams.
It was learned that the investigation initiated regarding the incident is ongoing.
