He had assaulted his lawyer girlfriend: Trial to continue

In the Osmangazi district of Bursa, lawyer Demet Elçin had filed a complaint against Mehmet S., with whom she was in a relationship and whom she had picked up in her car, alleging that he had robbed and assaulted her. Mehmet S. was taken into custody and subsequently arrested.

The hearing at the 4th High Criminal Court was attended by the detained defendant Mehmet S., who is being tried on charges of "armed threat," "armed robbery," "insult," and "deprivation of liberty," as well as the complainant Demet Elçin, lawyers from the Bursa Bar Association, a representative for the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB), and a lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

The defendant stated that they had argued before the date of the incident and that the complainant had come in her car to pick him up to talk, explaining that they began arguing on the way.

Denying the accusations against him and claiming that the complainant had told him, "I thought about having a child with you" and threw water at him, the defendant said, "I hit her with the back of my hand in a fit of anger. Then we went toward the shopping mall. I took the car with her consent to shop for the house we lived in together. When I returned, I saw she was not at home. I tried to reach her, but she directed me to different places. Later, she filed a complaint against me."

CORNEAL TEAR IN HER EYE

Complainant Demet Elçin stated that she suffered a corneal tear in her eye following the incident and that her treatment is ongoing.

Elçin stated that the defendant took her phone and returned it when leaving the vehicle, and expressed that she fainted because she was threatened and assaulted many times during the incident.

Elçin read the threatening and insulting messages the defendant had previously sent her, emphasized that it would be contrary to the ordinary course of life for her to give her car to the defendant after what happened, and stated that she wanted him to be punished.

The panel also heard the requests of witnesses and lawyers.

The court panel decided to have the complainant's phone HTS and base station records analyzed by an expert and ruled for the continuation of the defendant's detention, adjourning the hearing.
