The location of the argument between Martyrs' Mothers Association President Pakize Akbaba and Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler was the funeral ceremony held in Ankara for the soldiers who were martyred in the plane that crashed in Azerbaijan. Attending the ceremony, Pakize Akbaba expressed her reaction to the reconciliation process by saying to Yaşar Güler, "We do not want terrorism in Parliament."
Upon this, Güler snapped at Akbaba, saying, "Know your place, you are just a martyr's mother," and these moments were captured on camera instantly.
Speaking to 12punto regarding her upcoming court appearance, Pakize Akbaba said, "I told Minister Güler, 'We do not want terrorism in Parliament; you have neither the power nor the right to forgive the murderers of our children, you cannot forgive them.' After walking two steps away, he turned back and shook his finger at me. He said to me, 'Do not speak so insolently, you are just a martyr's mother.' I replied to these words by saying, 'You are the one who is insolent and rude; what else would I be, I know I am a martyr's mother.'"
It has emerged that a lawsuit was filed against Pakize Akbaba following the complaint of Yaşar Güler after this dialogue at the funeral.
The trial process will be heard at the Istanbul Anatolian 80th Criminal Court of First Instance. The first hearing of the case will be held on January 12, 2027, at 13:50. It was warned that if Akbaba does not attend the hearing, she will be brought by force.
Evaluating the lawsuit, Akbaba said, "I laid my child, who was like a mountain, like a rose, to rest for the sake of the homeland; if they think they will scare or intimidate me by putting me on trial, they are mistaken. I will not even hire a lawyer for the hearing. I will go and make my own defense myself."
Criticizing Minister Yaşar Güler by recalling the veterans who protested for months at Ankara's Güvenpark, Akbaba stated, "He never once came to their side, nor did he accept them. If he ignores us, it is not his right to sit in that seat; I will go for this reason."
