Striking statement from İmamoğlu on 'espionage' investigation: I have a few words to say
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been detained for a long time at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, has made a statement regarding the 'espionage' investigation launched against him. Describing the investigation as a 'disgraceful setup,' İmamoğlu used striking expressions in his statement.
Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a lengthy post on his social media account. In his statement evaluating the espionage investigation launched against him, İmamoğlu used the following expressions:
My Dear Nation,
The government and its judiciary are pushing the boundaries of malice and insolence. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, acting on orders given to them by the government, has this time launched an investigation against me on charges of espionage. After accusations of “aiding a terrorist organization” and “forming an organization to commit corruption,” I am now being accused of espionage.
I have a few words for those who orchestrated this disgraceful setup.
I am Ekrem İmamoğlu! Ekrem İmamoğlu from the Black Sea, born and raised in Trabzon. If I need to give my life for this heavenly homeland, I would not hesitate for even a moment. Every time I look at the crescent and star flag, my heart fills with pride. I consider working for the salvation of this country the highest value.
Am I a spy? Are you going to make a spy out of me? Get out of here!
We understood, you said “aiding a terrorist organization” and couldn't produce anything, you couldn't convince anyone. You said “corruption,” you worked for months, you imprisoned dozens of innocent, blameless people, you created slanderers, and you couldn't produce anything. When you couldn't produce anything, when you couldn't find anything to put in the indictment you prepared by saying “the big one is coming,” did you now cling to this? When you couldn't convince the nation with your fabricated accusations, did you now resort to this dead-end road?
When you are defeated in every election you face me in, and you no longer have the courage to compete with us, did you now orchestrate this disgraceful setup to prevent us from running against you in the elections?
You are the ones who allowed all the state's data, including the President's ID number, to be stolen; you are the ones who could not prevent the most sensitive information of all state institutions from falling into the hands of other countries. But I am the one committing espionage, is that so?
Do not forget, the judiciary of FETÖ, with whom you were once bedfellows, also accused dozens of my country's honorable officers of espionage and kept them in prison for years. They said that the country's pride soldiers, journalists, and thinkers were committing espionage. You know what happened, don't you? All the names your former partners accused of espionage are out today as honorable citizens. As for the judges and prosecutors who attempted to label them as spies, they are either in prison or have fled.
I warn those who accuse Ekrem İmamoğlu of espionage and those who try to set up traps and schemes for the last time: Come to your senses, take heed while there is still time!
To those who see me as an “adversary” today, my words are for you:
The stones of a path leading to a great fire are being laid, and this fire is not just for me. Think again and again about the path opened and the stones laid by the monster you created. Ending this inconceivable state of affairs and protecting democracy is a necessity for the survival of the country, the peace of society, and the seriousness of the state.
And I address the person who dares to use this state's prosecutors, police, and intelligence organizations for their own political interests:
Have you not heard of Hz. Mevlana?
“O you who dig a well with oppression. You are digging the well for yourself.”
