İmamoğlu writes a letter to convention delegates: 'We will defeat injustice and tyranny!'
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has written a letter to convention delegates from Silivri. İmamoğlu stated, "This government does not want a rival candidate, it does not want a rival party, and it does not want free and fair elections to be held."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed the delegates ahead of the CHP Convention to be held on Sunday, April 6.
"No matter what they do, we will succeed," said İmamoğlu, who included the following statements in the letter:
"Dear CHP Convention Delegate,
My Dear Fellow Traveler,
Our party's 21st Extraordinary Convention is gathering during an extraordinary period in every respect.
Our nation is under heavy siege today.
This siege is the siege of an oppressive government that clearly declares it is not bound by law and democracy, and sees itself as the owner of the state.
This government does not want a rival candidate, it does not want a rival party, and it does not want free and fair elections to be held.
They have only one concern; to keep the one-man system alive, which is dragging the country into disaster in every field from the economy to health, and from education to justice. However, no oppressive system can survive against the will of the people.
The dignity of the nation and its determination to protect its own will and future are above all kinds of tyranny. Since the very first day, the conventions of the Republican People's Party have been the places where this dignity and determination have been symbolized and where this struggle has taken shape.
Our founder, our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, explains this reality as follows:
'Our First General Congress was held in Sivas, in a school classroom. The delegates who came there were under all kinds of surveillance and faced many difficulties. However, the Congress Committee, believing that it represented the true feelings and aspirations of the Turkish nation, prioritized the necessity of completing its national duty above all other considerations. It determined the first principles of the path we are following; after that, it proceeded on those principles with devotion and determination, and it succeeded.'
You added a democratic revolution to this successful history on March 23 by making your choice for the Presidential candidate through a primary election. You did not stop there; you honored and made me proud by including the votes of the people, with 15.5 million people casting their ballots. I thank our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, our millions of members, and our citizens. Each of you has made history. We will continue on our path in the light of our principles.
I have no doubt that our convention will follow the same path today. Our party will prioritize the necessity of completing its national duty above all other considerations, will proceed with devotion and determination in line with the fundamental principles of our Republic, and will certainly succeed.
The difficulties they will put in our way and the torment they will make us experience on this honorable path that we will walk together until the end are merely details.
No matter what they do, we will succeed!
We will defeat injustice and tyranny. We will build the government of freedom, equality, and brotherhood all together. I thank you for your determined stance and your struggle, and I wish our convention, which I believe will give hope and courage to our nation, to be auspicious and successful.
With my love and respect."
