Investigation concluded into incident at Istanbul High School: Decision regarding 20 students

The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education has announced that the administrative process regarding the incidents that occurred at Istanbul High School in November and were reflected in the public eye has concluded.

DISCIPLINARY PROCESS COMPLETED

In a statement made on the directorate's social media account, it was stated, "The administrative process regarding the incidents involving some students at Istanbul High School last November, which were reflected in the public eye, has been completed, and the Fatih District Student Disciplinary Board, which convened on December 29, 2025, has meticulously evaluated the matter by addressing guidance, psychosocial support, and disciplinary processes together."

The statement noted that the students' psychosocial conditions were kept at the forefront throughout the evaluation process, and that the principles of "protecting privacy, the presumption of innocence, and the uninterrupted continuation of the right to education" were taken as a basis. It was conveyed that the disciplinary proceedings were carried out with an "educational, restorative, and remedial" approach, within the framework of the principles of proportionality and the balance between act and penalty.

DISCIPLINARY PENALTIES FOR 20 STUDENTS

Within the scope of the investigation, a decision was made regarding students identified as having a connection to systematic acts of violence, in accordance with Article 164 of the Ministry of National Education's Regulation on Secondary Education Institutions, titled "Behaviors and Acts Requiring Disciplinary Penalties." Accordingly, a total of 20 students were subjected to disciplinary sanctions: 2 students were given "Expulsion from Formal Education," 11 students were given "Change of School," and 7 students were given "Short-term Suspension from School."

GUIDANCE ACTIVITIES CONTINUE

In the continuation of the statement, it was noted that guidance activities at the school are continuing in order to protect a safe school climate, and that all necessary measures for the peaceful and healthy conduct of education and training processes are being resolutely implemented by the school administration. The statement concluded with the phrase, "Respectfully announced to the public."
