İsmail Saymaz: 'Somali President's son was granted a temporary residence permit in Turkey'

According to allegations in journalist İsmail Saymaz's column in Sözcü, it has emerged that Mohamed Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the son of the Somali President, was granted a temporary residence permit for a period of two years by the Ministry of Interior's Directorate of Migration Management on June 12, 2022.

In his article, Saymaz stated that on November 30, 2023, Mohamud struck Yunus Emre Göçer, who was traveling from Kadıköy to Eminönü, with the official vehicle he was driving, resulting in Göçer's death. It was reported that in his statement to the police after the accident, Mohamud claimed that Göçer had turned right without signaling and that he had braked to avoid him but could not stop in time. However, it was noted that CCTV footage showed Mohamud was lying and that he had not reduced his speed despite Göçer slowing down.

Although the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant for Mohamud in line with an expert report, it emerged that Mohamud had fled to Somalia on December 2, 2023.

In his article, Saymaz wrote, "If Mohamud were not the son of the Somali President, would he have been released from the police station? Never. Everyone living in Turkey knows that... Mohamud may have even been released following a phone call from 'above' and as a gesture to Somalia. Regardless, Mohamud's escape was turned a blind eye to and he was given a clear path."

At the end of his article, Saymaz said, "While foreign killers are fleeing... Nationalist youth who report on crimes involving fugitives, irregular migrants, and foreigners are being arrested as if they were terrorists. Welcome to the 'Banana Republic'!"
