Istanbul Bar Association President Kaboğlu meets with İmamoğlu
Istanbul Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu met with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was taken into custody as part of two separate investigations into terrorism and organized crime targeting the İBB.
Kaboğlu, accompanied by board members and several lawyers, arrived at the Istanbul Police Department's Vatan Campus for İmamoğlu, whose processing at the police station is ongoing.
Kaboğlu, who met with the detained İmamoğlu, later told reporters that İmamoğlu had been deprived of his liberty since 6:30 a.m.
Kaboğlu stated, "Our Constitution is binding for everyone and for all public institutions. The provisions of the Constitution are supreme legal rules that bind the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, as well as administrative authorities. How a person is taken into custody and how they are arrested are all contained and determined in the Constitution. I wish we were not facing such a major unconstitutional operation."
Referring to his meeting with İmamoğlu, Kaboğlu said, "Mr. İmamoğlu's morale is very high. He feels much stronger. He sends his greetings to all of you and to the entire society."
Following the statement, Kaboğlu and those accompanying him left the police headquarters.
