Lebanon to file complaint with UN Security Council over death of Reuters journalist
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take the issue of Israel's "deliberate killing" of journalist Issam Abdallah to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The statement issued by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Reuters cameraman Issam Abdallah, who lost his life yesterday as a result of a rocket fired by Israel on the Lebanese border, was shared by the official news agency NNA.
The statement, which noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed its Permanent Representative to the United Nations to file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council against Israel for the "deliberate killing" of Abdallah, stated the following:
"The easy killing of unarmed journalists who are victims of their desire to report the truth with their cameras, lenses, and pens is an attack on freedom of expression, the press, human rights, and international humanitarian law, and is a crime."
LEBANESE ARMY: ROCKET WAS FIRED BY ISRAEL
The Lebanese army also issued a written statement regarding the preliminary investigation findings at the scene of the incident concerning the killing of journalist Abdallah.
The statement noted that a rocket fired by the Israeli army toward the Alma al-Shaab area struck a vehicle carrying journalists.
It was recalled that 1 journalist died and 5 journalists were injured in the attack. The statement also indicated that Israel fired phosphorus rockets and conducted heavy artillery shelling yesterday targeting the towns of Marjayoun Plain, Kfar Chouba, Ayta ash Shab, Marwahin, and Adaisseh.
