Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was detained yesterday morning during a dawn raid on his home. Özer was brought to court in the evening and arrested. Following Özer's arrest, Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as a trustee to Esenyurt Municipality.

Özer's arrest was met with backlash. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş drew attention by breaking his silence on Özer's arrest hours later.

In a statement on his social media account, Yavaş asked, “It is stated that the allegations were identified going back 5-10 years. Why was it waited until this date?”

Drawing attention to the reports in pro-government media that 'a trustee has been appointed to Esenyurt Municipality' before the arrest warrant for Özer was issued, Yavaş stated, “The fact that this claim has materialized shows that the political dimension of the matter has become undeniable.”

WILL NOT ATTEND THE GATHERING IN FRONT OF ESENYURT MUNICIPALITY

According to sources reached by 12punto, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş will not attend the gathering that will take place in front of Esenyurt Municipality at 16:00.

According to the information obtained, Yavaş will not be present at the gathering in front of Esenyurt Municipality because 'he is attending a funeral program at the time of the afternoon prayer'.
