Police raids were conducted on the homes of numerous individuals who wanted to march from Saraçhane to Taksim on May Day in Istanbul. In a statement released by the SOL Party, it was said, "House raids are being carried out in Istanbul against many people, including our members, due to the May Day demonstration."

The AKP government, which banned Taksim Square on May Day, had effectively placed Istanbul under a blockade.

Labor unions and NGOs gathered in Saraçhane and attempted to march to Taksim. The SOL Party announced that house raids were being conducted against many people in Istanbul due to the May Day demonstration.

In addition to the SOL Party, it was announced that members of Halkevleri, Devrimci Hareket, Devrimci Gençlik Dernekleri, and the Socialist Struggle Initiative were also detained.

In the statement made by the SOL Party, it was"House raids are being carried out in Istanbul against many people, including our members, due to the May Day demonstration" stated.


While it was stated that the reason for the detention in the police raids on the homes of Halkevleri members was “participating in an illegal demonstration” the statement made from the social media account of the Revolutionary Youth Associations (Devrimci Gençlik Dernekleri) said, "Police raids are being carried out against our association" it was stated.


In a statement made by the Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branch, it was stated, "We have received information that the homes of 47 people were raided on the grounds that they resisted the unlawful Taksim ban on May 1st. We are heading to the Vatan Police Headquarters to follow up on the detentions." the expressions were used.
