Mustafa Çiftçi's statement on the Gülistan Doku murder

The Ministry of Interior reported on the efforts carried out for Turkey's security and the successes achieved during a press meeting held in Istanbul. The Ministry stated that they have achieved great success in unsolved murders in recent years. Since 2003, a 97.2 percent clearance rate has been achieved in intentional homicide cases. With this rate, Turkey has achieved a historic success in unsolved murders.

In recent years, thanks to the strengthening of criminal capacity and the development of crime scene investigation techniques, the number of unsolved murder files has fallen to the lowest levels in history. It was announced that there were no records of unsolved murders in 2023, 2024, 2025, and the first three months of 2026. This success was shown as a result of the strong coordination between police and gendarmerie units.

TRACKING FUGITIVE PERPETRATORS AND RED NOTICES

The Ministry of Interior effectively uses national and international mechanisms to capture fugitive perpetrators from past periods. In this context, it was announced that red notices have been issued for 262 individuals, and requests for red notices have been made for 94 individuals. Emphasizing that no perpetrator fleeing abroad means escaping the crime, the Ministry sent the message that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.

LATEST STATUS IN THE GÜLİSTAN DOKU FILE

The Gülistan Doku murder was included in the report as one of the most sensitive files on Turkey's agenda. The Ministry of Interior announced that a significant development has been achieved following Doku's disappearance. It was determined that Umut Altaş, one of the key figures in Doku's murder, entered the USA illegally via Mexico. It was stated that a red notice has been issued for Altaş and that the international operation process is currently underway to capture him within the borders of the USA.

DETERMINED FIGHT IN CYBER SECURITY

The fight against cybercrime was also on the ministry's agenda. By increasing its capacity to detect crimes in digital channels, the Ministry identified 86 thousand 937 criminal accounts and users between January 1 and April 16, 2026. The Ministry stated that it works on a 24/7 basis against accounts that praise crime and provoke society on digital platforms and that it intervenes harshly against criminals.

NEW STRATEGY AGAINST SCHOOL ATTACKS

The Ministry also shared the steps taken against the recent increase in school attacks. In addition to blocking 7 thousand URLs and fighting against digital dark structures, it was stated that a "zero tolerance" strategy has been put into effect in schools. With the operations launched after the school attacks in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa, dark digital structures such as "C31K" and "Tetikçiler 34" were dismantled. While a 7-step roadmap has been created for school safety, physical security measures in schools will be increased.

The Ministry of Interior stated that classical methods are no longer sufficient in the fight against crime and announced that they have developed a strategy called the "New Security Paradigm." This strategy centers on technology, artificial intelligence, and social cooperation. By increasing its digital tracking capacity, the Ministry aims to create a security architecture that gets to the source of crime and aims to prevent crime before it is born. Academic data, field research, and technology will be at the foundation of security policies.

GIANT OPERATION AGAINST UNLICENSED WEAPONS

The Ministry announced that a total of 32 thousand 523 unlicensed weapons were seized in operations carried out in the first three months of 2026. While pistols, hunting rifles, and blank-firing pistols were among these weapons, it was stated that judicial and administrative proceedings were initiated against 33 thousand 120 individuals caught with weapons. The Ministry of Interior emphasized that it will continue its fight against unlicensed weapons.

FIGHT AGAINST SMUGGLING AND ORGANIZED CRIME

The Ministry announced that they dismantled 274 organized crime gangs in the first quarter of 2026. Furthermore, it was pointed out that "new generation" gangs operate via social media. In the fight against drug trafficking, it was stated that the "Skunk" substance increased 3-fold, reaching the 7.5-ton level. While 17 thousand 386 individuals were detained in smuggling operations, it was stated that a total tax loss of 2 billion 406 million TL was prevented.

MEASURES TAKEN FOR BORDER SECURITY

The effects of the tensions on the Iran-USA-Israel line on Turkey's borders were also reported by the Ministry. Crossings on the Iranian line were closely monitored, and it was emphasized that border security continues to be maintained in a robust manner. It was reported that no serious activity was observed at border gates in the first three months of 2026. The Ministry stated that it will continue to keep border security at the highest level under all circumstances.
